Kinect and Move - the Paradigm Shift is Completed or: Redefining Next-Gen

The reasons for the extended life time are partially obvious: Microsoft and Sony expect the launch of their peripherals Kinect and Move to be huge. These extensions should give a fresh impetus to the aged consoles, especially on the casual gaming sector, that is still dominated by Nintendo. Microsoft has recently said, that - because of Kinect and the new "slim" console - the life of the Xbox 360 could endure five more years - until 2015!
But that's not everything: In regard to Kinect and Move I would suggest to speak of a whole new console generation. On the one hand, this would fit to the estimated console life cycle. On the other hand, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 4 are actually going to be entire new plattforms with Kinect and Move. Not only because they are advertised like that.

There are new games, launch titles, additional peripheries and new customers. Only with Kinect and Move the Xbox 360 and PS3 become complete next-gen consoles in my opinion.
Vice versa, this results in something very interesting for gamers: Following this logic, the Nintendo Wii is the only next-gen plattform on the market today. Well, that's how the tables turn.
