8. The competitors are stuck in the mud
They all had huge budgets and a big license – and they all failed to dethrone World of Warcraft: Lord of the Rings online, Age of Conan and Warhammer Online are great games, but they cannot even scratch the top dog in terms of scope and perfection. WoW has been running for almost half a decade, but still shows no signs of passing the legacy.
Wrath of the Lich King enlarges the content gap even further. A games company would have to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to jeopardize WoW’s supremacy – and couldn’t be sure to succeed. Wait, one company is willing (and wealthy) enough to develop a Triple-A-MMO: Blizzard itself. The own competition’s always the best!
